This project, rooted in the dedication of those who serve along the northern border, showcases our expertise in creating challenge coins that reflect an organization’s identity and culture.
The Design Journey
The process began with a collaborative exploration of the Grand Forks Sector’s unique mission, spanning the rugged border landscapes of North Dakota and Minnesota. Working closely with their team and a design they had previously had our firm create for them 7 years prior. We retained key elements that have a connection to the region, as well as revised text commemorating the 100th Anniversary of the U.S. Border Patrol. The design evolved over five business days, with our in-house team crafting the finalized artwork and incorporating client feedback through several complimentary revisions. The final design was approved, paving the way for minting.
The Results
The coin’s reverse features a striking howling Grey Timber Wolf under the vibrant blue Northern Lights, with the North Star — symbols of resilience, natural beauty, and northern guidance. On the obverse, the U.S. Border Patrol Insignia takes center stage, overlaid with a sparkling white snow effect across the upper portion of the United States shape, evoking the sector’s winter landscape. Forest green outer rings frame the design, adding depth and a nod to the region’s evergreen forests and the “Thin Green Line.” Using premium materials and the antiquing process, we enhanced the high-relief details, ensuring the raised elements—like the wolf, star, and insignia—stand out with distinction. The coin was produced in a limited run, weighing approximately 2 ounces with a 1.75-inch diameter, completed within our standard 4-6 week timeline.
Another stellar project delivered, the challenge coins have become a cherished token for the Grand Forks Sector, recognizing service, commemorating milestones, and fostering unity among agents. The intricate design and durable craftsmanship ensure it serves as a lasting badge of honor, reflecting the sector’s critical role in national security.
