NASA’s space shuttle fleet began setting records with its first launch on April 12, 1981. The programs missions prevailed for an impressive thirty years. The space shuttle Discovery departed NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida for the last time on its way to the Smithsonian’s National Air and Space Museum Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center in Chantilly, Virginia.

The Smithsonian, with the assistance of C. Forbes, Inc., designed a made in the USA commemorative lapel pin of the shuttle Discovery. The collectible pins are available in the Smithsonian’s National Air and Space Museum gift shops.
